Senior Network Engineer
Brief Overview of the Position
The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, maintaining, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure across customer and internal environments.
The role requires strong hands-on experience with Fortinet and Cisco technologies, network security, routing, switching, wireless networking, VPNs, firewall administration, troubleshooting, and network project delivery.
The successful candidate must be capable of independently managing complex network environments, leading technical implementations, resolving escalated incidents, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, configure, and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, SD-WAN, and data-centre network infrastructure.
- Configure and administer Fortinet solutions, including FortiGate firewalls, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager, and related security platforms.
- Configure and support Cisco routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, VLANs, trunking, EtherChannel, spanning tree, and routing protocol
- Implement and maintain firewall policies, NAT, IPsec VPNs, remote-access VPNs, web filtering, application control, IPS, antivirus, SSL inspection, and security profiles
- Configure and troubleshoot dynamic and static routing, including BGP, OSPF, policy-based routing, and route redistribution.
- Design and implement network segmentation using VLANs, access-control policies, and security zones.
- Implement network redundancy, high availability, link failover, load balancing, and disaster-recovery connectivity.
- Troubleshoot complex network, firewall, VPN, connectivity, performance, latency, and security incidents.Troubleshoot complex network, firewall, VPN, connectivity, performance, latency, and security incidents.
- Perform firewall firmware upgrades, security hardening, vulnerability remediation, configuration reviews, and health checks.
- Monitor network availability, performance, security events, bandwidth utilization, and infrastructure capacity.
- Prepare network diagrams, implementation plans, change requests, technical proposals, assessment reports, and as-built documentation.
- Conduct network assessments and develop AS-IS and TO-BE network designs
- Participate in customer meetings, project planning, technical presentations, and solution-design discussions.
- Coordinate with internet service providers, vendors, customers, and third-party service providers
- Provide escalation support and technical mentorship to junior engineers and support teams.
- Ensure network solutions comply with organizational security standards, industry best practices, and change-management procedures.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance, scheduled change windows, standby support, and emergency incident response when required.
minimum requirements
- Minimum of 5 years' practical experience in enterprise networking, network security, or a similar senior technical role.
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.
- Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet firewalls and security solutions.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches.
- Advanced understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, NAT, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and network security
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting IPsec site-to-site and remote-access VPNs.
- Experience with high-availability firewall deployments and redundant network designs.
- Experience with enterprise wireless networking and access-point deployments.
- Experience supporting MPLS, DIA, SD-WAN, LTE/5G, and multi-WAN environments
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical projects and incidents.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage professionally with customers, management, vendors, and technical teams.
- Valid Code B driver's license and willingness to travel to customer sites when required
- At least one of the following certifications required: Fortinet Certified Professional, Fortinet NSE 4, or an equivalent current Fortinet certification; or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Fortinet Certified Solution Specialist (or legacy NSE 5, NSE 6, NSE 7) and Cisco CCNP (Enterprise or Security) are advantageous.
- Demonstrated technical competency in FortiGate firewall configuration, Cisco routing and switching, firewall security policies and NAT, IPsec and remote-access VPNs, SD-WAN and multi-link failover, VLANs and segmentation, BGP/OSPF and static routing, high availability and disaster recovery, wireless networking, network monitoring and logging, security hardening, technical documentation, and incident, problem, and change management
